Erev tov everyone! I’m feeling pretty good right now because I just turned in a paper and tomorrow is a free day! But since everyone else is working on their paper, I decided it was the perfect time to blog.
Today we had an all day field trip to the Shephelah, or the low hill country of Judea. We learned a little bit about the geography of Israel and how the cities were set up. So apparently the major cities Jerusalem, Bethlehem, and Hebron are in the high lands with fortifications in the lowlands. A lot of biblical events occurred there in the lowlands so we focused on those events as we traveled around to different sites.
Since today was Sunday and there was no school for the school age kids, my bff Marissa Ludlow got to come on the field trip with us. Bus buddies!
Our first site was Beth Shemesh. This was the area that Samson lived. (Judges 13-16?) Gotta love those long-haired men!
Then we went to Azekah and the Elah valley where David slew Goliath! That was really sweet. We stood at the top of the hill and looked down to visualize where each of the armies were positioned and where the famous stand-off took place. Then we went down to the place and practiced our slingshot abilities. Obviously I was a natural (as you can tell from my fierce pictures).
The rest of the day was honestly kind of a blur. Maybe that’s just because those first Bible stories were the only ones I was familiar with, but I think mostly it was just hot. We hiked around more ancient Israelite cities, and went to a bunch of caves. (I think they were actually cisterns).
It was all fun. Just SUPER hot and sweaty. I lied Dad, the weather is not pleasant yet. But at least I’m not in Provo where Julia told me it SNOWED! Haha suckers! I’m going to die in December…. Well, that’s about all folks. I love you all! As Natalie Fister would say, Keep the Peace!
